Ultrasound is a technique that provides images of organ sections or anatomical districts thanks to ultrasounds and, therefore, absolutely harmless for both the patient and the operators.
Ultrasonography is the technique of choice for the evaluation of the abdomen and in particular for the evaluation of the liver, kidneys, spleen, pancreas, adrenal glands and bladder.
Ultrasound can also provide valuable information on the gastrointestinal tract and, moreover, an accurate evaluation of the male and female genital organs.
The use of the Doppler allows to evaluate the vascularization of the various abdominal organs and, in the case of neoplasia, thanks to the use of the contrast medium, it allows the evaluation of neoangiogenesis and the staging of the malignancy.
Ultrasound-assisted interventional manoeuvres, such as fine needle aspirations or biopsies, allow for minimally invasive sampling of organs or lesions to be subsequently subjected to cytological or histological examinations and, therefore, to arrive at a definitive diagnosis. Always thanks to the eco-assisted interventional maneuvers, it is possible to extract foreign bodies, drain pathological collections, alcoholic lesions, etc.
In addition to these procedures, ultrasound of the eye and of the thyroid and parathyroid glands is also performed.
Ultrasonography of the chest, excluding the heart and as a complement to radiography, can provide additional information if you have lung disease, chest effusions, or pneumothorax.
Finally, ultrasound allows the evaluation of the musculoskeletal system, with particular reference to muscle and tendon injuries, in both dogs and horses.
